A few hours after the final notes sound on our annual Thanksgiving concert, Deborah Buck and Joana Genova, violins, Ariel Rudiakov, viola, Hannah Holman, cello, and Evan Runyon, double bass, will perform onstage with Maxine Linehan in her wildly popular holiday show, This Time Of Year at Southern Vermont Arts Center’s Arkell Pavilion. It isn’t about tinsel and bright-colored lights; it’s about love and loss, yearning and joy, memory and the ineffable secrets of the heart.
Taconic String Band and Strings for Kids students perform side-by-side in an engaging program for attendees of all ages.

The Taconic String Band performs Baroque favorites, tangos, Viennese waltzes, Broadway tunes, and more. Led by Taconic’s Co-Artistic Director Ariel Rudiakov.

Taconic Chamber Players (violinists Joana Genova and Heather Braun, violists Rosemary Nelis and Ariel Rudiakov and cellist Nathaniel Parke, cello) and special guests from Venezuela (Carolina Ellenbogen), Sweden (Christina Yuengling) and Switzerland (Carol Berry).
Music from each country—arrangements of traditional melodies or pieces by classical composers—will be paired with a poem.
The concert will feature two special guests: the Scandinavian-American chorus Nordic Harmoni, based in Southern Vermont and the young composer Kian Ravaei who is currently pursuing his doctoral degree at the Juillard School. Born to Iranian immigrants, Ravaei’s works combine the ornamented melodies of Iranian classical music with the colorful harmonies of Western classical music.

This is a special opportunity for intermediate to advanced instrumentalists—violin, viola, cello and piano (ages 18 and up, adult amateurs, college students, etc.)—who are interested in playing chamber music in a non-competitive setting and would like to explore the culture and history of Italy. Students will participate as an ensemble in the opening and final faculty concerts on August 9 and 17, and be featured in their own performance on August 16.

Cellist Roberta Cooper won the Artists International Competition, which sponsored her Carnegie Hall debut. She is a member of the Walsh-Drucker-Cooper Trio, which has performed extensively on major series in the U.S. and Europe. Incorporated in 1995, Dionondehowa Wildlife Sanctuary & School is a forever-wild 501(c)3 land trust of 217 acres located along the Battenkill River near Shushan, NY. While the Sanctuary serves as a refuge and recharge for wild ones and humans alike, the School is dedicated to Nature Studies and to the Healing and Expressive Arts.

Members of Southern Vermont's vibrant international community will speak briefly about their personal journeys to the United States and read a poem in their native tongue, along with a translation in English. Music from each country—some traditional melodies, some pieces by classical composers—will be paired with each poem and performed by Taconic Chamber Players (Joana Genova and Heather Braun, violins; Ariel Rudiakov, viola and Nathaniel Parke, cello).
